This painting shows the jambu flower, made with natural inks from saffron, redcurrant, red cabbage, and coffee.
Jambu, also known as Acmella oleracea, is very important in Brasil, especially in the Amazon region. Indigenous communities have used it for generations in both food and medicine. Its leaves and flowers are known for their numbing, tingling effect, and are used to treat toothaches, sore throats, and infections.
Jambu is also a key ingredient in traditional Amazonian dishes like tacacá. For many Indigenous peoples, the plant is more than just useful—it is part of their cultural identity and their deep knowledge of the rainforest.
