This painting represents Iemanjá, revered as the Mother of Waters and one of the most important orixás (deities) in Afro-Brazilian religions such as Candomblé and Umbanda. Her origins trace back to West Africa, where she is deeply connected to water, motherhood, and creation.

Iemanjá is portrayed in a natural and serene form, without elaborate accessories, highlighting her essence as a guardian of the sea. White flowers, shells, and a fish appear beside her, symbolising traditional offerings, gratitude, and the life that exists within the ocean. In the sky, the phases of the moon represent cycles, change, and the movement of tides.

The work honours Iemanjá while drawing attention to the importance of protecting the oceans and coral reefs, especially today, as climate change, pollution, and rising sea temperatures threaten marine ecosystems.
